Compare the exact program before paying tuition
Asha is a fictional 24-year-old prospective student with a foreign bachelor’s degree and one year of skilled experience. This is a separate example: Priya is not required to study, and Maria has already graduated.
UBC Vancouver or SFU Burnaby?
UBC Master of Data Science: 10 months, tuition $59,767.92, illustrative total $86,567.92.
SFU Master of Science in Big Data: 16–20 months, first four terms $55,424.64, 16-month illustrative total $97,224.64.
Both are public DLIs with eligible graduate programs. Admission, study permit, PGWP conditions and future PR competitiveness are four separate decisions. Living and travel costs are fictional inputs; official program sources checked 2026-10-26.

Illustrative total: published tuition $55,424.64 + 16 × $2,500.00 living + $1,800.00 travel.
A longer period of living expenses and practical work experience through the program; a placement or job after graduation is not guaranteed.

Four decisions, four separate checks
Admission: prerequisites, grades and academic English; the university decides.
Study permit: enrolment, funds for tuition/living/travel, admissibility and the officer’s assessment. Admission alone does not grant a permit.
PGWP: DLI status alone is insufficient. These master’s degrees have no field-of-study restriction, but qualifying language, study history, timing and all other conditions apply.
Future PR: separate eligibility and selection rules. No future draw, invitation or approval is predicted.

Admission
Equivalent four-year bachelor’s degree; B+ / 76% in upper-year and prerequisite courses. Programming, statistics/probability, and calculus or linear algebra prerequisites. The university decides admission.
Bachelor’s in computing science or a related field, university academic minimums (normally CGPA 3.00/4.33) and country-specific equivalency. Preparation in programming, mathematics, algorithms, databases and operating systems.
Academic language
If required: IELTS Academic 7.0 overall, 6.5 in each component. Academic admission evidence is separate from immigration language tests.
University English minimum, where required: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, 6.0 in each component. Confirm any higher program requirement directly; admission is competitive.
Career relevance
Applied statistics, computing and AI, with real datasets and a capstone project.
Distributed systems, data engineering and scalable machine learning, with labs and a co-op component.
Tuition basis
2026S/2026W international program tuition: three instalments of CAD 19,922.64. Student fees and later continuing fees are separate; future cohorts may pay different rates.
2026/27 international tuition: first four terms at CAD 13,856.16 each. A fifth term at the published 50% continuing rate adds CAD 6,928.08; co-op fee included, ancillary fees separate.
A longer stay
Another term, if needed, can add tuition and living expense; confirm the university’s continuing fee.
At 20 months, the same fictional living/travel inputs plus one continuing term give $114,152.72, before ancillary costs.
Read each program’s rule-based matching findings
The released Marketplace matcher checks the fictional applicant against each exact program. UBC’s ten-month program tuition falls within one year; SFU’s first-year tuition is three terms, CAD 41,568.48. Whole-program costs remain separate above. Applicant evidence and authorization stay unresolved; academic English is not inferred from an immigration language test.

Based on your answers, your results from a test IRCC lists for a PGWP (CELPIP General, IELTS General Training, PTE Core, TEF Canada or TCF Canada) appear to meet the minimum for your program, or you are exempt as a flight school graduate. Your results must be less than 2 years old when you submit your application.
Based on your answers, you appear able to work off campus up to 24 hours a week during regular terms once you start full-time studies, if your permit allows it and you have a SIN.
Based on your answers, you appear able to work on campus without a work permit and with no hour limit while you study full-time, if your permit allows it and you have a SIN.
We need to confirm your school's DLI status, program length, full-time enrolment in each session (other than the final one or an authorized leave), your completion date, and that your study permit was valid at some point in the 180 days after you completed your program.
We need to confirm whether any PGWP exclusion applies, such as distance learning or a curriculum-licensing program, and the dates that may create an exception.
We need to confirm your program level and length, and whether your passport stays valid for the full PGWP you could receive: a PGWP is issued only for the period your passport is valid. It may be valid for up to 3 years for a program of 2 years or more or a master's degree of at least 8 months, and otherwise for up to the length of your program.
We need to confirm that you have a letter of acceptance and that the school is on IRCC's designated learning institution list, ideally with its DLI number.
We need to confirm your program level, whether your school is public or private, and which PAL/TAL exemption you rely on, with documents that prove it.
We need your documented available funds, first-year tuition, number of accompanying family members and school province (Quebec sets its own amounts) to compare with the required total.
We need to confirm whether you have ever worked or studied without authorization, exceeded work hours, stopped attending, or otherwise broken a permit condition.
We need to confirm whether you need an immigration medical exam. You need one if you will work in a job where public health must be protected (for example in health care, a clinical lab, a primary or secondary school, child care, domestic work or in-home care), whatever the length of your stay. For a stay of more than 6 months, you also need one if, in the year before you come to Canada or apply, you lived in or travelled to a country or territory for 6 months or more in a row where IRCC's country list says an exam is needed. If you already live in Canada and had an exam in the last 5 years that showed low or no risk, you may be exempt from another.

Conditional future scenarios using the released study planner
Plan using today’s rules and stated assumptions. Start: 1 September 2027. Province: British Columbia. Fictional CLB 9 listening / CLB 8 other English skills are assumed renewed when required; one year of authorized, paid, qualifying Canadian skilled work is an additional scenario.
Master of Data Science
Baseline CRS 356 → graduation 413 → plus one qualifying work year 491.
Completion 2028-07-01, age 26; work scenario 2029-07-01, age 27.
No nomination, job offer, admission, permit or employment is assumed. The work scenario is conditional on all required authorizations.
All calculation assumptions
The program starts September 1, 2027 and runs 10 months, so it ends July 1, 2028. The length is the usual length of this credential, not a fact about any one program: change it to the real length and the dates move with it.
The estimate is worked out for July 1, 2029, when you would hold the credential and have 1 year of skilled work in Canada, at the age you would be then (27).
The credential is earned in Canada, full time, at a designated learning institution, and it is a credential IRCC counts for its Canadian education points.
You have valid language test results at the levels you gave us when you apply. Results more than two years old earn no points, so the projection dates them to that day rather than counting results that would have expired.
Your existing credential stays assessed: an ECA report earns points for five years, so the projection dates yours to that day rather than counting an expired report.
The work after you finish is paid, skilled, authorized work in Canada, which is what work on a post-graduation work permit would be. IRCC decides that permit after the program ends, against the rules that apply then.
No provincial nomination, which is worth 600 points on its own.
No job offer, and no extra points for working in a high-wage occupation: those depend on the occupation and on IRCC’s published list, which nobody can settle for a job you do not have yet.
No change to your language results, and nothing for a second official language you do not have yet.

You answered "not sure" or "not decided" to 2 questions, so we treated them as not yet known rather than as a "no": What do you expect the work permit to be based on; Are you assessing whether you qualify for a new application under the current Ontario Workforce Priority job-offer criteria, rather than an earlier application, an existing nomination or the self-employed-physician category.
You skipped 2 questions, so nothing here relies on them: Tell us a little about your background and what you hope to do in Canada.; Is there anything else you would like us to understand about your goals or your situation.
We took your educational credential assessment and your language test results as valid on the day you apply. Key dates above says when each stops counting; after that date the result changes.
2 answers you wrote in your own words were not read by the rules: they only read the questions with set answers. A lawyer reads what you wrote.
We used the family size you gave (1) for every amount of money a rule asks you to show.
Selected scenarios use the rules and sources available at the capture date. They are conditional comparisons, not predictions or legal advice.
A saved listing is not a job offer, admission decision or work authorization. Corrections below are statements for discussion and do not change the assessment.
Using the Marketplace is optional and is never a condition of booking a consultation or retaining the firm.
Based on your answers, your settlement funds appear to meet IRCC's amount for your family size, or you appear exempt as someone authorized to work in Canada with a valid job offer. Applicants invited under the Canadian Experience Class don't need proof of funds either.
Express Entry: Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades Programs
From November 3, 2026, IRCC says a job offer used to meet Federal Skilled Worker or Federal Skilled Trades eligibility no longer needs an LMIA. IRCC's proof-of-funds page still describes the exemption as being authorized to work in Canada with a valid job offer and does not yet mention this change, so confirm that an offer without an LMIA qualifies before relying on the exemption.
Express Entry: Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades Programs
From November 3, 2026, a job offer that is valid under Express Entry and is in an occupation on IRCC's high-wage list earns 50, 70 or 100 CRS points instead of none, without needing an LMIA, and you get these points or your Canadian work experience points, whichever is higher.
We need to confirm your job offer is full-time, non-seasonal, for at least one year in TEER 0 to 3, and backed by an LMIA already issued or a qualifying LMIA-exempt work permit.
We need to confirm your Canadian work or study, close relatives in Canada, any job offer, and your accompanying spouse's language, Canadian study and work to count FSW adaptability points.
From November 3, 2026, a valid job offer can earn the 10 FSW arranged-employment points without an LMIA or an LMIA-exempt work permit, for candidates invited to apply on or after that date who meet the conditions of IRCC's temporary public policy; the offer must still meet the program's other requirements, such as full-time work for at least 1 year in a TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 job.
From November 3, 2026, candidates invited to apply on or after that date who meet the conditions of IRCC's temporary public policy do not need an LMIA for a qualifying job offer, and the 5 adaptability points come with arranged-employment points; no change to the other adaptability factors has been announced.
Names the driver CLB conflict for legal review, reconciles the post-nomination promotion guidance with the stream page, and links the OINP employer guide.
We need proof of your available funds, such as bank statements, to compare with your family size, the community where you will live and your work permit program; IRCC sets no fixed amount for work permits.
We need to review any possible admissibility concern or past refusal, and confirm your employer is not on IRCC's non-compliant employers list or in a prohibited sector.
We need to confirm whether your job, or time spent in certain countries in the past year, requires an immigration medical exam with an IRCC panel physician.
We need to confirm you have never worked or studied without authorization or broken permit conditions, that your employer is eligible, and that your qualifications fit the job.
Temporary work permits: general requirements (IRPR s. 200(3))
Set out the conditions for filing a work permit extension before the LMIA or CAQ decision, and the CPTS2026 code the form needs, which the guidance referred to in passing.
Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP): LMIA-based work permit
Before a port-of-entry application, we need to confirm you are visa-exempt or a U.S. permanent resident, whether you live in Canada, and that your LMIA, offer number or open-permit papers are ready.
Until November 2, 2026, job offers earn no CRS points. From November 3, 2026, a job offer that is valid under Express Entry and is in an occupation on IRCC's high-wage list earns 50, 70 or 100 CRS points, depending on the occupation's level, and it no longer needs an LMIA; you get these points or your Canadian work experience points, whichever is higher, not both. Even if its occupation is not on the high-wage list, a valid offer can still help with FSW arranged-employment points, the proof-of-funds exemption, FST eligibility and some provincial streams.
A written offer is not by itself entitlement. From November 3, 2026 an officer has to be satisfied that a qualifying job offer is genuine: that the employer is actively engaged in the business the offer is made for, that the offer reflects its reasonable employment needs, that the employer can reasonably meet the terms, that you are qualified and able to do the work and likely to accept and carry it out, and that the employer has followed employment and recruitment law. An offer that is revoked no longer qualifies, and a work permit on its own is not a job offer. Where you or a family member owns part of the employer or takes part in the hiring, expect those questions to be examined closely, and keep the incorporation, financial and recruitment records for the position to hand.
Unless you are exempt, your settlement funds must be your own and available, not borrowed or tied up in property, shown by letters from each bank listing balances, six-month averages and debts. You don't need proof of funds if you're invited under the Canadian Experience Class, or if you're authorized to work in Canada and have a valid job offer; IRCC's system still asks everyone for a proof of funds document, so in that case you upload a letter explaining why. Keep your funds up to date in your profile, since you may not know ahead of time which program you'll be invited under.
Express Entry: Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades Programs
From November 3, 2026, no change has been announced to which funds count or how to prove them; only who is exempt may change, as set out for the settlement funds amount.

States both earnings look-backs, a notice issued in the last 5 years and earnings in a single year within the past 5 years, and asks for the earnings year to be confirmed.
Ontario’s new Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) round, running to the end of 2027, sets aside nomination spaces for partner communities including Greater Sudbury, Kenora, Nipissing, Rainy River, Renfrew and Thunder Bay. There is no separate application: you apply through Ontario’s nominee program and must meet its requirements.
The area you named is one of the partner communities in Ontario’s Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) round, which runs to the end of 2027 and sets aside nomination spaces for communities with a critical need for workers. This is not a separate application and not a decision about you: Ontario considers you through its nominee program, and that program’s requirements still decide whether you qualify. Ontario draws each community as a census division defined by Statistics Canada rather than by a city limit, so check the boundary for the town you have in mind. Ontario has not published how many spaces this round holds, or how they are split between the six communities.
Expect IRCC fees of about CAD 155 per work permit, plus CAD 100 for an open work permit, CAD 85 for biometrics, or CAD 401.25 to restore worker status; check IRCC's fee list before you pay.
