Ravi’s sample assessment

What the rules engine found for Ravi’s made-up answers: the paths it examined, what each one needs, and what it couldn’t decide.

Ravi, an AI-generated fictional character

Released at once, or held for a lawyer?

Our lawyers approve the rules an assessment is released on. Routine ones are released at once; anything unusual waits for a lawyer first, and so does anything resting on a rule a lawyer has not approved yet. Here is what would happen to this one.

Held for a lawyer

A real applicant with these answers would wait for a lawyer to review the assessment before seeing it, because:

  • Some requirements need professional judgment.

This made-up sample wasn’t sent to a lawyer as an assessment: the hold shows what would happen for a real applicant.

Pathways examined

Ravi’s sample report says: “You’re aiming for: Permanent residence (become a permanent resident). We checked your answers against 28 requirements for your goal. Here’s what we found: 22 appear to be met, 3 may not be met, 2 need more information and 1 needs a lawyer to look closer.”

  1. Express Entry: Canadian Experience ClassWorth exploring

From what you told us, 7 of 7 requirements checked appear to be met.

  2. Express Entry: Federal Skilled Worker ProgramWorth exploring

From what you told us, 12 of 12 requirements checked appear to be met.

  3. Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program: Ontario Workforce Priority streamSomething important is missing

From what you told us, 0 of 1 requirement checked appear to be met. Here’s what may not be met: Ontario Workforce Priority stream: a full-time, permanent Ontario job offer (or self-employed physician).

Four different questions

Eligible, competitive, up to an officer, and what to file

Meeting the entry requirements isn’t the same as being chosen. The sample keeps apart what the law requires, how a program ranks people, what an officer decides, and what the application itself needs. Every requirement the report checked is in one of the four.

Legal eligibility

What the law and the program’s rules ask of this person before they can apply.

  • 1 for a lawyer to look at

Selection competitiveness

How the person would rank against other candidates, where the program ranks them at all.

Estimated ranking score (CRS): 466 today, and 506 under the rules announced for November 3, 2026.

  • 1 not met

Scores are estimates from IRCC’s published points tables applied to these made-up answers. IRCC calculates the real score from a profile and documents, and cut-offs change with every round, so no score guarantees an invitation.

Discretionary outcomes

What an officer weighs and decides beyond the checklist.

None of the requirements checked here is mainly an officer’s discretion, though an officer still decides every application.

Applying and filing

How to apply, what to file and what it costs: not whether the person qualifies, but what the application needs.

    What’s missing or uncertain

    For a lawyer to judge

    • Permit ends within about 12 months, or status may have ended: plan how to keep status until permanent residenceKeeping your status in Canada while you wait for permanent residenceOfficial source

    Still to confirm

    • We need to confirm that at least one year of your Canadian work earns CRS points. Under the Ministerial Instructions, it must be full-time work (at least 30 hours a week) or the same amount part-time, done in Canada within the last 10 years while you had temporary resident status, and not unauthorized or done during full-time study. It must also be TEER 0 to 3 work for one or more employers, paid by wages or commission, or work as a physician (NOC 31100, 31101 or 31102) providing publicly funded medical services, which can count even if you were self-employed. Our questions do not ask about your temporary resident status during that work, so check it, and your weekly hours, against your records. If you told us that some of the work was done without permission to work or outside Canada, count only the periods in Canada while you were allowed to work. If you told us that some of the work was done during full-time study or was self-employment, count only the periods outside full-time study and, unless it was that physician work, outside self-employment: with 2 years or more of work, those periods may still add up to a year or more. Until then, treat the Canadian work points in your score as provisional.
    • We need to confirm that your Canadian credential is eligible and that your studies met the conditions for additional CRS points. It must come from a Canadian public post-secondary institution, or a private one that operated under the same rules and regulations as a public one; a Quebec DEP or ASP from a program of at least 900 hours at a private secondary or post-secondary institution in Quebec, or a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree from a private institution that a provincial statute authorizes to confer it, also counts. You must have studied at a Canadian educational institution located in Canada. You must also have studied full-time for at least eight months while physically present in Canada for at least eight months, with no more than half of the program by distance learning, unless your program was undertaken, in whole or in part, from March 1, 2020 to August 31, 2022. The credential does not count if English or French as a second language made up more than half of the program, or if you studied on a scholarship or fellowship that required you to return to your home country. An eligible one-year or two-year program earns 15 points; a program of three years or more, a university-level master’s or doctoral credential, or an entry-to-practice professional degree for a TEER 1 occupation that requires licensing by a provincial regulatory body earns 30.

    3. Go through this with a lawyer, for Keeping your status in Canada while you wait for permanent residence: Permit ends within about 12 months, or status may have ended: plan how to keep status until permanent residence.

      Next priority

Your work or study permit ends within about 12 months, or your status may already have ended, so a lawyer will review how you can keep your status, and keep working if you are allowed to, until you become a permanent resident. If you hold a work permit, a bridging open work permit through Express Entry is only possible once you are invited to apply and, as the principal applicant, submit a complete permanent residence application that passes IRCC's completeness check; an Express Entry profile is not an application. A post-graduation work permit can be extended only if it was issued for a shorter time because your passport was expiring. In most cases, a study permit stops being valid 90 days after you complete your studies, even if a later date is printed on it. Don't work in Canada without status: it can make you ineligible for Express Entry.

    Express Entry: occupation-based category rounds

    • Occupation-based category rounds: 12 months in one listed occupation within 3 yearsNot met

None of the jobs you told us about gives you 12 months of full-time work (or the same amount part-time) in the last 3 years in one occupation on IRCC's current lists for the healthcare and social services, STEM, trade, education, transport, physician, senior manager or researcher categories (for the physician, senior manager and researcher categories, the work must be in Canada), so those category rounds may not be open to you. General and program-specific rounds can still invite you if you qualify for them. If you worked 12 months in the last 3 years in a different occupation that is on these lists, those category rounds could still apply.

    Express Entry: Comprehensive Ranking System

    • CRS core: Canadian work experience pointsNeed more info

We need to confirm that at least one year of your Canadian work earns CRS points.

Your answers: In the last 10 years, how many years of paid, skilled work have you done in Canada while legally allowed to work: 2 years · Was that Canadian work done while you were legally allowed to work and physically in Canada, and not mainly as self-employment or during full-time study: Yes · What's your marital status: Never Married · and 1 more answers

    • CRS additional points: Canadian post-secondary credential = 15 or 30Need more info

We need to confirm that your Canadian credential is eligible and that your studies met the conditions for additional CRS points.

Your answers: Did you complete an eligible diploma, degree or certificate in Canada? Keeping your status in Canada while you wait for permanent residence

    • Permit ends within about 12 months, or status may have ended: plan how to keep status until permanent residenceA lawyer will look closer

Your answers: What is your immigration status in Canada right now, if you have one: Worker · Which country do you live in right now: Canada · If you have a Canadian work permit right now, when does it expire: 2027-09-13 · and 2 more answers

What you could do next, and what it could change

Your score is a starting point. Let’s look at the changes your answers let us calculate, what each would involve and which decisions are in your hands. Each example holds your other answers and the assessment date fixed. It is not a prediction of your score after time has passed.

CLB 9 or higher in all four abilities of your first official language

    CRS estimate: 466 → 514 (+48 points).

    Under the rules from November 3, 2026: 506 → 554 (+48 points).

Federal Skilled Worker selection points: 74 → 79 (+5 points). You would remain at or above the 67-point pass mark; the program’s other requirements still apply.

    You can work on this

You reported listening CLB 9, reading CLB 7, writing CLB 7, speaking CLB 8, tested on 2026-02-23.

Language points can change both your language score and the points you receive when language is considered with education or work experience. The estimate above includes those interactions.

    How to take this forward
    1. Put your result sheet beside IRCC’s conversion table. The target in this example is listening CLB 9, reading CLB 9, writing CLB 9, speaking CLB 9. Focus preparation on the abilities below that target.
    2. Try a practice test before paying for a new test. Use the approved test and version listed by IRCC, then enter your actual new results to reassess.

Before you commit. Preparation, a test fee and a new result are needed. A higher result is not assured. If your results have expired, this example includes renewing them; changing the level alone would not restore their validity.

Valid first-language results at benchmark 8 or higher in every ability

    CRS estimate: 466 → 478 (+12 points).

    Under the rules from November 3, 2026: 506 → 518 (+12 points).

Federal Skilled Worker selection points: 74 → 76 (+2 points).

French test results at NCLC 7 or higher in all four abilities, keeping your English results (French-language rounds also need this)

    CRS estimate: 466 → 528 (+62 points).

    Under the rules from November 3, 2026: 506 → 568 (+62 points).

Federal Skilled Worker selection points: 74 → 78 (+4 points). You would remain at or above the 67-point pass mark; the program’s other requirements still apply.

    You can work on this

Your first official language is English. For the second language, you reported “No”.

This example adds French at NCLC 7 or higher in all four abilities while keeping your first-language answers. It shows the effect for your profile, including any points that interact.

    How to take this forward
    1. Start with an assessment of your current French level. Compare the gap in each ability with this target before committing to lessons.
    2. Choose a preparation plan you can sustain, check the approved test and its cost, and reassess only after you receive the results.

Before you commit. Starting a language from scratch may take substantial time and money. We have not assessed your learning needs or estimated how long this would take. Your first-language results also need to remain valid.

    A provincial or territorial nomination

    CRS estimate: 466 → 1051 (+585 points).

    Under the rules from November 3, 2026: 506 → 1091 (+585 points).

Federal Skilled Worker selection points: 74 → 74 (no change). You would remain at or above the 67-point pass mark; the program’s other requirements still apply.

    Depends on another decision

You have not confirmed a provincial nomination.

A nomination can change the score substantially, but it is a separate selection process. The gain shown accounts for any additional points already in your estimate.

    How to take this forward
    1. Start with the provincial paths in this report and their unresolved requirements. Check the official stream page for whether it is accepting applicants and how it selects them.
    2. Consider only a province where you genuinely intend to live. Check its job, occupation, experience and other conditions before spending money on an application.

Before you commit. You can prepare and apply where the process allows; the province decides whether to nominate you. The size of the points gain says nothing about how attainable a nomination is.

These are separate examples, each starting from the same answers. Do not add the gains together: factors interact and points are capped. Use the “What if” tool to recalculate a combination. A higher score does not guarantee an invitation or approval.

On March 27, 2027 you turn 33, and your age points go from 94 to 88. Age is not something you can change. Keep this date in view when weighing a plan that takes time, alongside the expiry dates of your test results and documents.

How the Labour Market Integration points were worked out

    93 points

This factor is an announced change. It applies from November 3, 2026, so it is part of the estimate from that day and not of today’s.

It gives 93 points, from your Canadian work experience (its length, with the high-wage addition where your occupation is on IRCC’s list). The factor counts whichever of the two gives more, never both added together.

The most it can give in your situation is 150 points.

Our guide to CRS pointsOur guide to the Federal Skilled Worker requirements

    Improve your prospects

Compare changes to your own facts. Conditional examples are separate from your current-law result.

Working through what you can change

Let’s take the open requirements one at a time: what your answers tell us, what you can work on, and what to check before spending time or money. Missing information comes first; it may need confirming rather than fixing.

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program: Ontario Workforce Priority stream

    • A provincial or territorial nomination
Ontario Workforce Priority stream: a full-time, permanent Ontario job offer (or self-employed physician)

For the current new-application job-offer pathway, your answers show a missing Ontario full-time, permanent offer. A possible self-employed physician exception, historical application or nomination must be reviewed separately.

      Depends on another decision

The answers behind this finding: Do you have a job offer in Canada: No; Which country do you live in right now: Canada; Which province or territory are you in right now: Ontario.

This finding affects Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program: Ontario Workforce Priority stream. Addressing it would improve this part of the assessment; the other requirements and any selection process would still apply.

      How to take this forward
      1. Check the official stream’s current intake and selection process, then work through the gaps listed for that province in this report.
      2. Decide whether you genuinely want to settle there before preparing an application or expression of interest.

Before you commit. You can prepare your case, but the province or territory controls selection and nomination.

Doing any of these does not mean a path would open. Each one changes a single requirement; the others still apply, and a lawyer can tell you which are worth the effort in your case.

Review supporting factors, barriers and assumptions

What’s working for you, and what’s in the way

Here’s what the rules say, based on your answers.

    Working for you

    • You appear to have one year (1,560 hours) of authorized, paid TEER 0 to 3 work in Canada within the last three years, as CEC requires.
    • Your Canadian work was authorized, done while in Canada, and not self-employment or during full-time study, so it may count for CEC. That is what you told us, in one answer covering all four of those conditions, and nothing here tests it. Where your report also shows whether that Canadian work was employment or self-employment as a requirement for a lawyer, it is their decision that settles the self-employment part, not this one.
    • Your approved test results appear to meet the CEC language minimum for your occupation: CLB/NCLC 7 for TEER 0 or 1, or CLB/NCLC 5 for TEER 2 or 3.
    • You appear to have at least one year (1,560 hours) of continuous paid work in your primary TEER 0 to 3 occupation within the last 10 years, with matching duties.
    • You appear to have approved test results under two years old showing at least CLB/NCLC 7 in all four abilities, the Federal Skilled Worker minimum.
    • You appear to have a Canadian credential or a foreign credential with a valid Educational Credential Assessment, as the Federal Skilled Worker Program requires.
    • Your estimated Federal Skilled Worker selection score is 67 or more out of 100, the pass mark. The estimate is only as accurate as your answers, so check each factor against your documents; a lawyer can review them with you in a consultation.
    • You appear to earn FSW work-experience points: 9 for one year, 11 for 2 to 3 years, 13 for 4 to 5 years, 15 for six or more.
    • Based on your date of birth, you appear to earn FSW age points (12 from age 18 to 35, then one fewer each year to 1 point at 46), counted on your application date.
    • You appear to earn FSW adaptability points (up to 10) from Canadian work or study, a close relative in Canada, a qualifying job offer, or your accompanying spouse's factors.
    • No health condition is reported for you or your family members that would raise a medical inadmissibility concern; the immigration medical exam is still required.
    • No charge or conviction is reported for you or your family members, so criminality does not appear to be a concern; police certificates are still required.
    • No previous misrepresentation finding is reported for you or a family member; every answer and document must stay accurate and consistent with past applications.
    • Based on your date of birth, you appear to earn CRS age points; the most are given from age 20 to 29, falling each year to none at 45.
    • Your education appears to earn CRS points, through a Canadian credential or a foreign credential with a valid Educational Credential Assessment.
    • Your approved first-language test results appear to earn CRS points; higher CLB/NCLC levels in each ability earn considerably more.
    • You appear to earn CRS skill-transferability points by combining education or foreign work with strong language or Canadian work, or a trade certificate with language.
    • You appear to have an immigration Educational Credential Assessment for your foreign credential; it must be under five years old when you apply.
    • You appear to intend to live outside Quebec or, as a nominee, in the province or territory that nominated you, as these programs require.
    • Your settlement funds appear to meet IRCC's amount for your family size, or you appear exempt as someone authorized to work in Canada with a valid job offer. Applicants invited under the Canadian Experience Class don't need proof of funds either.
    • Your results appear to be from an approved test (CELPIP-General, IELTS General Training, PTE Core, TEF Canada or TCF Canada) and less than two years old.
    • Your primary occupation appears to be TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3, the levels Express Entry programs accept. Confirm your NOC by matching your actual duties to the NOC lead statement and main duties, not your job title; a lawyer can check this with you in a consultation.

    In the way

    • For the current new-application job-offer pathway, your answers show a missing Ontario full-time, permanent offer. A possible self-employed physician exception, historical application or nomination must be reviewed separately.
    • None of the jobs you told us about gives you 12 months of full-time work (or the same amount part-time) in the last 3 years in one occupation on IRCC's current lists for the healthcare and social services, STEM, trade, education, transport, physician, senior manager or researcher categories (for the physician, senior manager and researcher categories, the work must be in Canada), so those category rounds may not be open to you. General and program-specific rounds can still invite you if you qualify for them. If you worked 12 months in the last 3 years in a different occupation that is on these lists, those category rounds could still apply.
    • Your current occupation is not in a skilled trade group that the Federal Skilled Trades Program accepts (NOC 2021 Major Groups 72 except 726, 73, 82, 83, 92 and 93 except 932, Minor Group 6320 or Unit Group 62200), so this program may not be open to you unless you have at least 2 years of qualifying work in one of those trades in the last 5 years.

    Still need to know

    What we assumed

What this assessment took as given. If any of it is wrong, change your answer and we’ll prepare a fresh one.

    • We checked your answers as they stood on November 1, 2026, against the rules in force then. A change announced after that day isn’t included here.
    • You answered "not sure" or "not decided" to 11 questions, so we treated them as not yet known rather than as a "no": Have you completed at least 6 consecutive qualifying months in this exact offered position within the 12 months before applying; Do you qualify as a recent Ontario graduate and have at least 3 consecutive qualifying months in this exact offered position within the 12 months before applying; Have you completed at least 2 years of qualifying paid experience, or its permitted part-time equivalent, within the 5 years before applying; How does all of the experience counted for that two-year alternative match the offered job's NOC; and 7 more.
    • You skipped 2 questions, so nothing here relies on them: What Ontario Workforce Priority application submission date are you checking; On what date did you actually take the language test used for this Ontario application.
    • We took your educational credential assessment and your language test results as valid on the day you apply. Key dates above says when each stops counting; after that date the result changes.
    • 4 answers you wrote in your own words were not read by the rules: they only read the questions with set answers. A lawyer reads what you wrote.
    • We used the family size you gave (1) for every amount of money a rule asks you to show.

    • Employment evidence, and the occupation code your duties have to supportTo gather

Work experience is read against what the occupation's description says, not against your job title: IRCC looks for the lead statement and a substantial number of the main duties, including every essential one. For Canadian work it asks for employer reference letters covering each period you claim, with your work permit and your T4 slips or Notice of Assessment, or other records that substantiate the work, such as a letter of employment, contracts and pay stubs. Time while you were a full-time student does not count. Check that each letter states your duties, your dates, your hours and your pay, and that the duties in it are the duties you actually performed.

    • Points and eligibility have to be supported by documents that are still validTo gather

Every figure in your estimate rests on a document, and the document has to still be valid on the day you submit. If your score is recalculated below the lowest score in the round you were invited in, IRCC says to decline the invitation; applying anyway can mean a refusal and no refund of the application fee. An expired language result, a lower retest, a job offer that has ended or a nomination that has been withdrawn all lower a score. Check the date on each language result, each credential assessment and each bank letter against the date you expect to submit, and ask for a replacement early where one will be needed.

    • Acceptable settlement funds and proofTo gather

Unless you are exempt, your settlement funds must be your own and available, not borrowed or tied up in property, shown by letters from each bank listing balances, six-month averages and debts. You don't need proof of funds if you're invited under the Canadian Experience Class, or if you're authorized to work in Canada and have a valid job offer; IRCC's system still asks everyone for a proof of funds document, so in that case you upload a letter explaining why. Keep your funds up to date in your profile, since you may not know ahead of time which program you'll be invited under.

Let’s look at what your records need to show. We’re working from your answers and haven’t seen the documents. Each item explains what may follow if it stays unresolved, and what would settle it. None of it is a prediction about your application, and none of it is scored.

    • That the settlement funds a program requires are shown by the recordsNote for your records

You gave the settlement funds available to you as 18000, for a family of 1.

Where a program requires settlement funds, the amount is established by the documents filed rather than by the figure given here, and the figure has to be met on the day it is assessed. Funds the records do not establish, or that are not available to be used, cannot support the requirement.

What settles it: Official letters from every bank or financial institution holding your money, on their letterhead, with their contact details, your name, your outstanding debts, and for each account its number, the date it was opened, the current balance and the average balance over the past 6 months, together with an account of any money that is not yours to use.

Please confirm, for Express Entry: Comprehensive Ranking System: CRS core: Canadian work experience points.

We need to confirm that at least one year of your Canadian work earns CRS points.

Please confirm, for Express Entry: Comprehensive Ranking System: CRS additional points: Canadian post-secondary credential = 15 or 30.

We need to confirm that your Canadian credential is eligible and that your studies met the conditions for additional CRS points.

Action ranking: Recorded status deadlines and conflicting evidence come first, followed by missing eligibility facts, applicant-controlled improvements, documents and dependent opportunities. Applicant-reported dates still need document verification. The size of a hypothetical points gain is not a probability or the sole ranking factor. Costs and completion times are not estimated without a source.

This is a starting point, not a decision. It is based on your recorded answers, before document verification. Only the competent government authority can decide an application.

We use Government of Canada and provincial or territorial government pages for immigration requirements and published figures. We calculate your estimates from your answers. Our own guides and Marketplace listings are labelled separately. We never use lawyers’, consultants’, forum or news sites as sources.

    Good to know

    • From November 3, 2026, at least 12 months of qualifying Canadian work in occupations on IRCC's high-wage list adds 20, 40 or 70 CRS points on top of the points for how long you worked in Canada, up to 150 in total (140 with an accompanying spouse or partner).
    • For a new Ontario Workforce Priority job-offer application, your employer submits the offer first; you then have 30 calendar days to register an EOI. If invited, your employer must apply within 14 calendar days of the invitation. You must apply and pay within 17 calendar days of that same invitation, and only after your employer submits. Self-employed physicians can use a separate category without a job offer; these employer-portal steps do not describe every Ontario nominee application. After an Express Entry nomination notification, you have 30 calendar days to accept or refuse it; after the federal ITA, you have 60 calendar days to apply for permanent residence. The general six-month post-nomination instruction does not extend that ITA deadline. Current EOI scoring gives 10 earnings points for $80,000 or more earned in a single year within the past five years, verified by a CRA Notice of Assessment. Ontario’s Workforce Priority stream page also bases this factor on a notice issued in the last five years, so check both the earnings year and the notice date.
    • Ontario’s new Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) round, running to the end of 2027, sets aside nomination spaces for partner communities including Greater Sudbury, Kenora, Nipissing, Rainy River, Renfrew and Thunder Bay. There is no separate application: you apply through Ontario’s nominee program and must meet its requirements.
    • Until November 2, 2026, job offers earn no CRS points. From November 3, 2026, a job offer that is valid under Express Entry and is in an occupation on IRCC's high-wage list earns 50, 70 or 100 CRS points, depending on the occupation's level, and it no longer needs an LMIA; you get these points or your Canadian work experience points, whichever is higher, not both. Even if its occupation is not on the high-wage list, a valid offer can still help with FSW arranged-employment points, the proof-of-funds exemption, FST eligibility and some provincial streams.
    • Express Entry starts with an online profile; you enter the pool only if you meet FSW, CEC or FST, invitations follow CRS rank, and a profile expires after 12 months without an invitation.
    • If invited, you have 60 days to apply, with police certificates and medical exams for you and your family (a recent exam may be reusable if you live in Canada); your language results and ECA must still be valid when you submit, or the application is refused.
    • If a province or territory nominates you, an Express Entry-linked (enhanced) nomination adds 600 CRS points, while a base nomination leads to a separate PR application outside Express Entry.
    • Rules, programs and how people are selected can change, sometimes quickly.
    • Meeting the minimum requirements doesn’t guarantee an invitation or an approval.
